Vale Doug Henry It is with great sadness that we report the passing of one of our club’s great contributors on and off the field, Life Member Douglas ‘Doug’ Henry.

Doug was aged 84 and left us last Saturday. In his playing days Doug was a tough back rower and occasional prop when required, who ran out in 229 Grade Games in Myrtle Green from 1959 to 1976.

He also played 36 games in First Grade between 1961-66 and was a member of the 1966 2nd Grade Premiership winning team.

After his playing days he went on to make a huge contribution off the field as a volunteer, firstly moving into coaching from 1971-76 guiding 3rd & 4th Grade. He was also a long-term touch judge in the 1980’s & 90’s, running the line in lower Grade games. Doug was also a member of the Club Executive Committee where he served in the hugely important & challenging role of Club Treasurer from 1990-2003 and was highly respected in it. Basically, Doug was an incredible servant of the club that he loved and did so almost continuously for over 4 decades and was so deservedly awarded Life Membership of Randwick Rugby in 1997. He was universally described as a great Randwick man and one of nature’s gentlemen.

The celebration service for Doug’s life is to be held at 2.00pm tomorrow, Thursday, August 28th at The Olsens Chapel, 691 Old Princes Highway at Sutherland.

We pass on our deepest sympathies to his wife Janet and his family. Doug was also a father/in-law to Stuart & Annie, Lavinia & Peter, Kate & Mark. He was grandfather to Riley, Rory, Clancy, Finlay, Liam & Lily Rose. And was a loving brother to Ronald & Lola, Bruce & Rose and their families. RIP Doug.

We sincerely thank you for everything you have done for our club and your loyal service - you will be sorely missed. God bless you, your family and many friends.

Up the Wicks! 💚🐎💚
