First Grade win their final outing of the 2019 Season

First Grade

In first grade, the boys went into the game knowing that they would not make the semi-finals, but they trained well during the week and were determined to go out on a positive note. Early in the game, Captain and Hooker David Vea opened the account with the first try. A short time later, Norths returned the compliment with two tries in succession, followed by a further two tries before half-time.

Randwick started the second half in classic Randwick running Rugby style; scoring two tries in the first five minutes to lock up the scores at 22 all. With both teams scoring tries and Randwick converting theirs, Randwick now led 29 to Norths 27.

With 8 minutes to go, Norths converted a penalty to lead by one point. Randwick never gave up and with 2 minutes to go, were rewarded with a penalty on half way, which was not converted. Norths re-started play with a 22 drop out on the bell and Randwick rallied; putting 14 phases together. The boys’ efforts were rewarded with a penalty about 30 metres out, after a Norths illegal tackle, which gave fullback Will Harrison the final say.

Coach’s praise went to Tight Head Prop Dan Matthew, Hooker David Vea and Wingers Josh Gordon and Christian Yassmin on his return to Randwick after a stint in Japan.

The boys also wish the best for Jack (Yonno) Johnson as he takes on other adventures. He has been a great servant of the game.

Second Grade

In 2nd grade, Randwick showed why they are still premiership contenders, with a convincing win over Norths. Randwick ran in 6 tries to 6 players, coupled with Outside centre Fraser Strachan having a good day with the boot and veteran Hooker Adam Freier scoring the second try.

Third Grade

In 3rd grade, despite Randwick’s position on the table and a good start culminating in an early lead, Norths were far more enthusiastic and needed a win to keep their semi-final chances alive. Two spectacular tries were contributed by winger Ned Robinson and fly half Harry Tyson’s boot was in fine form, but Norths were more determined.
