Randwick take home 6 from 6 against Parramatta, with 1st Grade winning the Kolia Cup!

First Grade

The boys headed to Lidcombe Oval to take on Western Sydney Two Blues, who were also playing for the Kolia Cup. The trophy was named in honour of Kolia Aigaga Liko, a young and up and coming Western Sydney Two Blues player who recently lost his battle with mental illness.

Kick off was deferred to 3.10pm to allow a Pasifika performance as part of the Kolia Cup Pasifika round. The Two Blues first grade players also wore commemorative Jerseys promoting Lifeline.

Randwick started off well gaining the advantage and scoring first. Despite this, the Western Sydney Two Blues applied good pressure with a rush up defence, forcing Randwick to make a few handling errors close to the Two Blues’ line. Two Blues went into the half-time break leading 10 points to 7.

In the second half, Openside flanker Jack Johnson got Randwick back in front, scoring the first try after the break. However, it was not long before the Two Blues regained the lead with a penalty goal. A solid try by Winger Joshua Gordon helped the boys to lift, with replacement Halfback Harrison Goddard directing play well and having the final say, scoring the match-sealing try.

Replacement Tight head prop Dan Matthew received the Coach’s praise for his ever-improving support and try-assist skills.

After the match, Randwick Captain David Vea was presented with the Kolia Cup by Kolia’s parents.

Second Grade

In second grade, although the Two Blues scored first, Randwick made fairly light work of the Two Blues - running in five unanswered tries before Two Blues Fly Half was red-carded. Despite being a man down, the Two Blues still managed to score a further three tries. However, Randwick continued the ascendency - scoring another five tries to run out convincing winners. Right Winger Connor Size is credited with scoring four of those tries.
