Randwick Rugby is Seeking a First Grade Forwards Coach & First Grade Defence Coach.
Two exciting opportunities exist to join us as either our First Grade Forward Coach or First Grade Defence Coach for the 2025 season.
Roles Available:
1). The First Grade Forwards Coach at Randwick Rugby is responsible for coaching our First Grade/Top Squad Forwards and act more broadly as our Club Set Piece Coach, in conjunction with the First Grade Head Coach.
2). The First Grade Defence Coach at Randwick Rugby is responsible for coaching and implementing our defensive strategy for our First Grade/Top Squad team, which will also be used more broadly across the club, again in conjunction with the First Grade Head Coach.
Reporting Structure:
Both the First Grade Forward Coach and First Grade Defence Coach at the club will report directly to and work collabratively with the First Grade Head Coach and our overall Director of Rugby.
Role Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the First Grade Head Coach, both roles will focus on weekly training session planning, execution, upcoming match previews and post match video reviews.
- The First Grade Forwards Coach will be responsible for developing and implementing a successful set piece (scrum, lineout, maul in both attack and defence) for the First Grade/Top Squad Program. Plus, be responsible for driving the overall club’s lineout, scrum and maul philosophy, strategy and execution with other coaches.
- The First Grade Defence Coach will be responsible for coaching and overseeing the defence strategy for the First Grade/Top Squad Grade Rugby program. Plus, be responsible for guiding defence philosophy, strategy and execution more broadly across the club.
- Be accessible to mentor other coaches within the club (both Grade, Colts and Juniors) on your areas of speciality.
- Collaborating with all relevant coaches across the club on weekly team selections.
- Use all coaching technology available to review performance/plan for upcoming matches.
The successful candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:
- Preferred Level 3 Rugby Coaching Accreditation or equivalent.
- Demonstrated success in a similar role, with experience at this level at a Shute Shield Club or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Experience using video review programs such as HUDL.
- Strong planning and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills - both written and oral, most particularly a confident public speaker.
- Be an Australian resident.
- Have a current NSW drivers’ licence.
- Have excellent technical expertise in forwards play and set piece (scrum and lineout), defence, but also have sound knowledge in all areas of the game.
Position Term:
This is a one year part-time role for the duration of the 2025 season, including pre-season and post season reviews. There is a further year option based on performance criteria.

Working Hours Commitment:
The services and attendance requirement is dictated by the club’s training, competition and planning schedule, but typically require you to be available as follows:
- In Season Training: 2-3 nights per week at Latham Park, South Coogee.
- Game Day: For Top Squad Matches at various times and locations across Sydney.
- Planning Meetings: As required in the club offices, training ground or via zoom.
- Club Events, Junior Development Activities & Socials. Where and when required.
