Morgan Turinui Appointed Randwick Club Coach for 2020.

The Randwick District Rugby Union Football Club is today delighted to announce the immediate appointment of Morgan Turinui as our Club Coach for the 2020 season. He takes on this role from Ben McCormack, who remains with us as our First Grade Coach.

Morgan returns from Victoria where he has lived since being Assistant Coach of the Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby team in 2017. Prior to this he was an Assistant First Grade Coach at Randwick in 2016 and Head Coach of the Lille Metropole Club in France from 2013-15. He comes to us with a wealth of experience in high performance programs and rugby knowledge.

Morgan had a decorated on-field career, playing 54 first grade games for Randwick from 2002-08. He represented the NSW Waratahs in 65 games from 2001-07 and then played a further 21 matches for the Queensland Reds between 2008-10. For Australia he attained 20 Caps for the Wallabies between 2003-08, including being a member of 2 World Cup Squads. He then finished his professional playing days in France in 2014 after a 5-year stint at the Stade Francais, Lille Metropole and USDAX clubs.

Randwick President Bob Dwyer said “We are thrilled Morgan is returning to Sydney and to his old club. He is a Randwick man through & through - a local resident, a junior, a colt, a first grader, who then became a Waratah & Wallaby. Now he has come the full circle and we welcome him back to lead our coaching ranks. His appointment will serve us well! “

Morgan’s focus as Club Coach is to drive coaching and player development in our grade and colts’ programs. He will work closely with Ben McCormack to ensure we have a high-performance environment in place for First Grade, that flows across all teams in the club and into our hugely successful junior academy, local village clubs and other pathways.

Morgan stated “I am both excited and humbled to be entrusted with the Club Coach role at the club that has given me so much throughout my life. We have incredible talent in our coaching, playing and junior ranks at Randwick, plus the unequalled ability to tap in to the rich resources of our ex-player network. On the back of this, I guarantee there will be plenty of outstanding rugby for our fans to watch at Coogee Oval in 2020.” he added.
