Over this coming June Long Weekend, Randwick Rugby will field 9 junior representative teams to compete at the NSWJRU State Championships. Our teams include our six Under 12-18 Boys, plus our Under 14,16 &18 Girls. Our players will be travelling all over the state to compete in country regions including Forster, Orange, Dubbo, Maitland and some other divisions are held in Sydney at both Granville and Concord.
In all, Randwick have entered 13 junior representative teams (including our four Under 10 & 11 Development teams who play in July) to compete at this year’s State Championships and State Gala - the most of any district in the state.
Randwick has a proud record at these state tournaments, having won 6 NSW State Championship titles over the past 5 years. These representative tournaments make up part of our club’s junior pathway program for our local juniors.
The vast majority of our selected rep players are members of our Randwick Junior Academy, played with their village clubs - Coogee, Clovelly, Maroubra, Randwick Warriors and Magic - and will follow in the footsteps of many past and current Randwick 1st Grade players who competed at the State Champs over many years.
A lot of work goes into preparing our teams for the upcoming tournament. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteer rep coaches, managers, trainers and AR’s for giving up their time to prepare our teams and guide them over the long weekend. And to our dedicated parents who will be travelling all over the state to support their children and respective teams.
A huge personal thank you to Gina Whitehouse for her tireless work behind the scenes assisting Amanda Baker with the ordering and supply of all the rep playing gear and associated tournament administration. We can’t thank Gina enough for her dedicated support, while also juggling the Senior Club role.
I’d like to acknowledge our Junior Academy sponsors who are wonderful supporters of our local juniors and who have contributed to the supply of Randwick hoodies and warm up shirts for all our rep players, coaches, managers and support staff.
Fit Your Ability
We also sincerely thank Scape Australia and UNSW - the senior club’s major partners, for their generous support across our junior programs and clubs.
And finally, we'd like to thank our Junior Village Club Presidents, Juniors President Jodie Steele, Randwick GM Mark Harrison, Randwick Senior Club President Brian O’Sullivan, 1st Grade Coach Shaun Berne, Director of Rugby Craig Hawkings, Jim Dubos, Janette Sayle and Jon Collins for their unwavering support of our local junior clubs, Junior Academy and our junior representative program.
Be assured that every player wearing the famous myrtle green jersey over the long weekend will be giving their absolute all for the club. And when they taste success, McNamara’s Band will be sung loud and proud all over the state!
Good luck to all and Up the Wicks!
