2022 4TH GRADE GRAND FINAL PREVIEW & TEAM LIST

Announcing our 4th Grade Grand Finalists who will run out against Sydney University at 1.15pm at Coogee Oval. 4th Grade are looking to defend their premiership from the 2020 season where they defeated Gordon in a thrilling game at Foreshore Rugby Park.

Coached by Joe Picone, Tom Wallace and Lachlan McKay, 4th Grade finished the regular season in 2nd place with 12 competition wins and accumulated 11 bonus points. Barnaby Bickmore-Hutt was the leading try scorer across the 4th Grade competition recording an impressive 8 meat pies over the year.

The heart and soul of the club, 4th Grade had to wait until round 10 to play on Coogee Oval due to the inclement weather that plagued the beginning of the season. This did not deter the boys recording impressive wins over Eastwood, Easts and Warringah at Fortress Latham in the opening half of the season.

Captained by the inspiration Tim Reeves, the team has a great mix of youth and experience. This includes a number of boys who have stepped up in their first year of grade including Dom Moretti, Garang Garang, Harvey Austin and Calan Porter. With the additions of club stalwarts such as Pat Phibbs, Tom Weatherill, Pat Hoggett, Drew Ferguson, Jerry Morkos and Sam Lolo, 4th Grade has continued to nurture through the next generation of Galloping Greens.

On their journey to the grand final, 4th Grade had a narrow defeat in the opening week of playoffs losing to Norths by a penalty goal. This set up a massive clash with Southern Districts who won the minor premiership off Randwick with a commanding 38-8 win only two weeks earlier.

The preliminary final lived up to expectations with Randwick and Souths battling for territory early. Randwick’s task of entering successive grand finals was made even more difficult with a red card during the first half. Not to be outdone by the highly fancied Souths side, Randwick stayed composed for the remainder of the game and hurt Souths out wide thanks to a double from Garang Garang. The courageous 14 man Randwick side brought it home in the second half playing text book finals footy in a famous Randwick victory 18-10 and book their place in the grand final.

We wish 4th Grade all the best in their grand final this Saturday!
