2022 NSWJRU State Junior Championships Team Lists
This long weekend all our best and brightest Randwick juniors, both boys and girls - embark on their annual mission for state title glory, as they play in 3-day championship tournaments across the state. This includes rural locations such as Dubbo, Maitland and Orange, which play host to this massive event, made up of 9 separate championships (6 boys and 3 girls) across the under 12-18 age groups.
The logistics and effort to do so is staggering and it has been brilliantly co-ordinated by Stu Donaldson and his band of volunteers. In particular, Gina and Paul Whitehouse who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to assist Stu with rep gear distribution and player registration for the tournament. We also thank the Randwick Rugby Foundation and The Jeffrey Sayle Foundation for their generous support of this year’s campaign and junior rugby in this district overall. Plus we thank the NSW Positive Rugby Foundation for their sponsorship of all entry fees for all junior teams at this year’s championships, which is a great funding initiative of grassroots rugby.
We again have a Women's Under 18 team representing our club at the State Championships, which follows on from the excellent pathway provided by our Randwick Magic Girls club, as the Randwick Warriors brilliantly set the benchmark for the boys.
This week there has been a number of jersey presentations to the players and team dinners were held at Coogee Legion Club – the major sponsor of our Randwick Junior Academy. These functions have been attended by former state championship winning and current grade players Matt Stead and Joel Ellis, along with club legend Simon Poidevin, our club coach Morgan Turinui, our GM Mark Harrison and also Janette Sayle, honouring the legacy of her brother, the great Jeffrey Sayle who was so passionate about our juniors.
The age group and locations for each team are listed below and as you can see these kids are lucky to have some brilliant volunteer coaches and legends of Randwick Rugby guiding them around the ground this weekend, such as Owen Finegan, Warwick Waugh, Danny Grant, Luke Mann, Adam Baker and Vili Taukomo to name but a few.

Separate to these state championships, later on in July our under 10 & 11 age group reps will also participate in the State Gala Tournament in Tuggerah.
This state carnival is a really key component of the time-honoured pathway for our juniors to go from their village clubs, our junior academy, into junior representative programs and onto to colts and grade. This week we celebrated Ryan Powter’s 100 Club Games in Grade and this was the exact junior pathway he followed to reach that milestone.

Do your best and enjoy. Up the Wicks!
